Statipstics - part ii
Correct Scores:
Markus and Christian both tipped the Correct Score in 8 of the 50 matches during this Tipster. Ben, Craig and Ferdi tipped the Correct Score 7 times each. Amir managed it just once, and Christine twice.
For comparison, in the 2022 World Cup, two people failed to tip the correct Score in any of the 64 matches.
Correct Margin:
Franzi gained 7 points from 9 matches; Axel, El-Hinny and Ozren tipped the Correct Margin in 8 matches; Alex, Amir and Paul managed this just once, but also didn't tip all 50 matches.
Being Right:
Christian tipped the right Winner in 28 matches.
Ben, Chris, Ferdi and Markus tipped the right Winner in 27. André and Joris were right in 26 matches.
Paul and Simon tipped the correct Winner in just 13 matches.
Scorer:
The first Scorer was tipped in 6 matches by Chris, and in 5 by Christian.
Axel, Franzi, Joe, Robert and Tino achieved this 4 times each. Simon did not tip the Correct Scorer in any game, although he did miss 17 matches.
Time:
Ralph guessed the closest Time in 8 matches, giving him 14% of his points total. Christian and Craig both tipped the closest Time in 6 matches.
Four people were unlucky and did not tip the closest Time in any match: Alex, Markus, Paul and Soeren. Paul was also the least lucky person in Euro 2021, tipping the closest Time just once; but he was the luckiest in the 2022 World Cup, tipping the closest Time in 10 matches.
On average, Amir's tips were closest to the actual Time, just 14.2 minutes away from the actual Time. But Amir only tipped 5 matches. The next best was Alex, on average 19.5 minutes away, at least in the 24 matches he tipped. Of the people who tipped (almost) all the matches, Joris was on average closest to the correct Time, 19.7 minutes out. Despite this, Joris only tipped the closest Time in one match. A similar fate befell him during Euro 2021 (closest average, but only gained 3 points in four matches).
In the 2022 World Cup, Ralph was the next closest after Joris; this year, he was only 20.1 minutes out, and tipped the closest Time in 8 matches. Next best was Soeren, on average just 20.5 minutes out, but somehow he didn't tip the closest Time in any of the 50 matches.
The least accurate on average was Paul, 36 minutes away from the actual Time.
Tipping:
In total, nearly 1100 tips were received (some people tipped 2 or even 3 times for some matches). 144 tips were missing (about 12% of the total). Excluding Amir, this drops to 9%.
As in 2022, seven people tipped 100% of the matches: well done to André, Ben, Christian, Franz, Robert, Soeren and Tino. A few other people did also tip all the matches, but submitted some of their tips after the game had begun.
Five people missed just one match. This is a similar return rate to the 2022 Tipster, which was the best return rate for any Tipster up till then.
There was just 1 match which everybody tipped: Germany - Scotland, right at the start. Excluding Amir (who tipped just 5 matches), there were 11 matches where everybody tipped. The least tipped game was Romania - Netherlands, where 5 people missed their tips.
Points per Tip:
Amir scored on average 5 points per tip, but he only tipped 5 games. In theory, if he'd tipped all the matches, then going in to the final game he would have already had 250 points (compared with Christian, who had 221 points after 50 games). Christian scored at an average rate of 4.42 points per game, followed by Chris (4.06), Markus (4.02) and Ferdi (4.00). Cup Finalist Soeren had an average of 2.84, better only than Simon (2.70). After 50 games, Alex and Ozren could both have been 8 places higher in the table if they had tipped every match.
Comparisons:
Finally, the winner of the 2024 Tipster gained an average of 4.53 points from 51 matches.
André won the 2022 World Cup Tipster with an average of 4.64 points per game (297 points from 64 matches), while Robert won the Euro 2021 Tipster with an average of 4.43 points per game (226 points from 51 matches). Ozren still holds the record of 5.03 points per game from the 2018 World Cup.
However, comparisons across tournaments are meaningless: Harry Kane was the joint winner of the Golden Boot in Euro 2024 with just 3 goals. By comparison, Müller needed to score 5 goals to win the Golden Boot in 2014, whereas five goals would have only reached 3rd place in the 2022 World Cup. :-)
